Free for All is a jazz album by Art Blakey the Jazz Messengers released on Blue Note. Recorded in February 1964, it was released the following year. It was originally titled Free Fall. Free For All captures Art Blakey and his Messengers at the height of their powers in the mid '60s. Since expanding to a sextet with the addition of Curtis Fuller on trombone, the group took on a largerthanlife sound with more complex. The sextet lineup of the Jazz Messengers, including Curtis Fuller on trombone, produced one of my favorite Messengers albums, Free for All in 1964. The entire set is stunning, and epitomizes the best of the hardbop school of jazz.
